Following the success of the World Cup, AFA has partnered with a metaverse startup

For one of its first forays into web-based fan interaction, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) has teamed up with metaverse company Upland.

The agreement provides for digital souvenirs and a virtual meeting place for AFA fans.
Claudio Fabian Tapia, president of the Argentine Football Association, said in a statement, "The Argentine Professional League has long anticipated possibilities to take advantage of developing technology to better our League's fan experience." Together with the leading developers of cutting-edge software and innovative digital goods, we can help all of the clubs involved in this deal tap into a whole new revenue stream.

Over three million players have signed up for Upland, a game in which they may purchase and sell plots of virtual property that are linked to specific locations in the real world. The company behind the game, which was valued at $300 million in November 2021, raised $18 million in a financing led by Animoca Brands.

The Block said earlier that the fan token for Argentina's team went up during the World Cup but then went down right after Argentina won.
